Weather watchers report rainfall but still below normalBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, November 8, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune Though some rain fell in October, the total amounts for the year leave the area well below normal rainfall amounts for the year. Thats the reports from local weather watchers Phillip McAdams in Prescott and Davis Benton in Cale. Both report rainfall during several specific periods of the month. According to McAdams report, rainfall in Prescott was just more than 2.5 inches. The majority of that rain fell during two periods of rainfall, on Oct. 15 and 16, and on Oct. 25 and 26. Only a minute amount of rainfall was reported on other dates of the month, McAdams reports. Benton reported a total of 3.14 inches of rainfall in the Cale area during the month of October. That rain brings the total measured by Benton to 32.71 inches during 2006. Benton indicates that this is about 6 inches below the average rainfall for the first ten months of a year. In fact, Benton has repeatedly reported that the area is below what is considered normal rainfall amounts over the past several months. On the subject of temperatures, both weather watchers report highs in or near the 90s and lows in the 30s. According to Bentons report, the high temperature for October was 95. The low of 35 degrees occurred on Oct. 23, according to Benton. That low brought with it a light frost. McAdams reported a low temperature of 34 degrees recorded on four separate dates - Oct. 20, 21, 23 and 24. McAdams indicated that he didnt record a temperature above 89 degrees - an event that occurred on Oct. 1, 2, 4 and 5. The months averages were 49 degrees for the low and 76 degrees for the high, McAdams reported. November weather started more like fall with significant rainfall reported in some areas of the state.
