PMS Tours Jail, Post Office, Courthouse

Published Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

The citizenship class at Prescott Middle School took a field trip Friday, March 5, beginning their trip with a tour of the city jail. They toured the courthouse and each office. The people working in these offices were very informative when describing their duties.

The class also toured the post office. They had no idea that so many pieces of mail were sorted each day.

Another part of the tour was of the Depot Museum. John Teeter did a wonderful job of explaining and answering questions from the class.

The class had a delicious lunch at the Pizza Hut.

In the citizenship class the students have been discussing what it means to be a citizen, what each person's rights and responsibilities are and some of the things the government does for its citizens.

Several guest speakers have spoken to the class concerning the pride of a U.S. citizen and the responsibilities that go along with each community.

Members of the citizenship class who went on the field trip were Mrs. C. McClure, Mrs. J. Callicott, Mrs. P. Roberts and Mrs. E. Johnson, Dominique Smith, Nicole Gleason, Lakeshia Buford, Meagan Miller, Bobby Williams, Amanda Page, Cecil Zeigler, Lasonya Hopson, Errica Cason and Kari Britton.

The class plan to invite more of the public officials to speak to them, and they plan to make a trip to the state capitol in Little Rock.
