A new record has been set for the amount raised during the Gurdon Chamber of Commerces annual auction.

The annual event, which includes both live and silent auctions and is in its fifth year, was held Monday, Oct. 16 in the Gurdon High School cafetorium. A record $9,632 was raised during the night, according to Michelle Babineaux.

Those in attendance at the auction enjoyed a meal between the live and silent auctions.

Everything from floral arrangements, savings bonds, and everyday household items were available in the silent auction. A host of Arkansas Razorbacks memorabilia, including a football autographed by University of Arkansas Head Football Coach Houston Nutt was also part of the silent auction.

The live auction kicked-off at 8 p.m. Bob Goodman was the auctioneer.

There were several big ticket items in the live auction. The item bringing the most money was a steak dinner for four at the Charles and Anita Cabe residence. J.L Griffin paid $575 for that honor.

A brass plaque from the old Gurdon High School auditorium which lists the members of the board of education and administration from 1955 when the building was constructed sold for $550.

Other items in the live auction ranged from a large doll house to the desert of the month, an item which entitles the buyer to a homemade desert each month for a year.

All of the items for the auction were donated by area businesses and individuals. Anita Cabe, one of the organizers of the event, said she is very thankful for the sponsors who made the evening possible.

One twist to this years auction is that all of the profit is being donated by the chamber of commerce to the Gurdon School Districts auditorium fund.
