Penalties plagued the Prescott Curley Wolves as they took the home field against the Centerpoint Knights. The penalties were costly for the Wolves, but the Wolves remain at the top of the conference. The second half of the game went quickly once the Wolves had gained enough ground to force officials to call the mercy rule into play.

There were several moments during the game that sent the fans to their feet, including a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness and an injury.

Ben Smith took a hit that sent him off the field for a play but the Wolves backup Deon Accor made his first varsity quarterback play payoff with a touchdown.

The penalties were simply a fact of life for the Wolves and they handed the Knights some 80 yards during the first half.

The Wolves have made a practice of drawing first blood and the game against the Centerpoint Knights was no exception. The Knights kicked off first but managed to recover the ball. The Wolves were having no part of that and refused to allow the Knights any advances over the next few plays, forcing the turnover.

A heartbreaking fumble for the Wolves just shy of the touchdown put the football back in the hands of the Knights for another opportunity to shut the Wolves out of that first touchdown. But again the Wolves simply refused to allow the Knights to score. When the Knights again turned over to the Wolves, the home team found their way to the first touchdown.

The Wolves made a statement with their next play as Justin Marcum geared up to kick. But it was a fake and as the Knights scrambled to shut Marcums kick down, Smith passed to James Threadgood for two points.

It was during the first half that the Wolves were hit with the unnecessary roughness penalty. The Knights had the ball and a Knight player was making the run. Officials called the play with a whistle when the player apparently stepped out of bounds. The Knight player didnt stop and Knight fans were on their feet as the player headed deep into Curley Wolf territory toward the goal line. A Prescott player grabbed the Knight and forced him down, resulting in the official flag and a 15-yard penalty. Knight fans went wild while Prescott fans were on their feet, booing the call. There were some heated words directed at Prescott coaches before play resumed.

By the last few minutes of the game, with the clock set to run constantly as a result of the mercy rule, the Centerpoint Knights seemed merely intent on running out the time without allowing another Curley Wolf touchdown. The play ended with the Wolves making a spectacular win, putting them at 5-0 for the conference. The team will meet Fouke Oct. 27. (See related story, beginning on page 1.)

Prescott had 19 first downs, 231 yards rushing. The Wolves passed for more than 200 yards.
