Devils have homecoming victory - conference win puts Devils in play-offsBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, October 18, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The Gurdon Go-Devils pulled off another conference win at home on Friday, Oct. 13 as the team defeated the Magnet Cove Panthers 33-14. The victory gives the Go-Devils three conference wins on the season, and Head Coach John Pace told the team after the game that this win puts them in the play-offs. Gurdon took an early lead when #11 Zack Duncan intercepted a pass from #5 Lonnie Lacy and took it in for a touchdown on a 60 yard play. An unsportsmanlike conduct call was made against the Go-Devils after team members celebrated in the end-zone after the score, and a 15 yard penalty was assessed for the extra point attempt. On an attempt to kick for one extra point, the ball bounced off of the uprights, and with 10:26 remaining in the first quarter of play, the Go-Devils were leading 6-0. It didnt take long for the Panthers to answer the points scored by the Go-Devils. After working their way down to the Go-Devils one yard line, the Panthers ran the ball in for a touchdown and had a successful point after attempt. The Panthers took the lead in the game 7-6. Early in the second quarter, Magnet Cove attempted to kick a field goal, but the attempt to add three points to the board was not successful. With less than one minute to play in the first half of the ballgame, #20 Jonathan Lacy carried the ball one yard for a Go-Devil touchdown. OBryan Bell made the two-point conversion, and the Go-Devils went into the locker room leading the Panthers 14-7. Kendall Harper kicked off for the Go-Devils in the second half. The Panthers received the ball on their own two yard line and made it back to the 36 yard line before being stopped by a host of Go-Devils. The Panthers made it all the way to the end-zone, and after kicking for an extra point, the game was tied 14-14 with 10:17 left in to play in the third quarter. Almost five minutes expired off of the clock before a pass from Ethan Jones to Andrew Franklin resulted in another touchdown for the Go-Devils. An extra point attempt was good, and the Devils reclaimed the lead at 21-14. Not long after the Go-Devils kick return to the Panthers, #5 Lonnie Lacy intercepted a pass intended for a Panther and ran the ball all the way back to the two yard line before being stopped. Lacy then carried the ball the remaining two yards, and the Go-Devils advanced their lead to 27-14 with 3:28 to play in the third quarter. The final score of the game occurred after Jonathan Lacy recovered a Panther fumble at the 49 yard line. Lonnie Lacy then ran the ball back to the five yard line before he was forced out of bounds. Lacy made the five yard touchdown run easily. The ballgame ended with the Gurdon Go-Devils defeating the Magnet Cove Panthers 33-14. Pace was very pleased with his team in the post-game huddle. You finally came out and played a second half, he told the team. Be happy with what you did; dont ever be satisfied. The Go-Devils are on the road on Oct. 20 as they travel to Bismarck to face the Lions. The Junior Go-Devils will play Bismarck on Oct. 19 at Go-Devils Stadium.
