House a total loss after fireBy Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in the Gurdon Times No one was injured when a house on South Street in Gurdon burned during the morning hours of Oct. 5. Gurdon firefighters were called to the scene around 9:30 a.m. after neighbors reported the blaze. The house was located immediately behind the Gurdon School District superintendents office. Gurdon Fire Chief Robert Burns said the fire started in the back portion of the house. He cited the cause as either the hot water heater or the clothes dryer. The whole back of the house was pretty much engulfed when we got there, he said. The fire damage was contained to the rear of the house, however, the front rooms received significant smoke and water damage. Burns said he has determined that the house is a total loss. Burns said the owner of the property is James Dickerson, but he had leased the house to Nancy Marion. No one was reportedly at home when the fire broke out.
