Go-Devils beat Fouke 49-10By Jeremy LangleyPublished Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in the Gurdon Times For the second time in conference play this year, the Gurdon Go-Devils forced the mercy rule into effect as they defeated the Fouke Panthers 49-10 at Fouke on Friday, Oct. 6. The fact that the night was homecoming for the Panthers made no difference to the Go-Devils. Early in the first quarter, senior quarterback Lonnie Lacy ran the ball in for touchdown. The attempt to kick for an extra point was no good, and the Devils lead 6-0. Less than three minutes expired off of the clock before Lacy ran in for another six points. A two point conversion attempt was successful when the ball was taken into the end-zone by senior Jonathan Lacy, and the Devils expanded their lead 14-0. With a little more than one minute off the clock in the second quarter, the Panthers kicked a field goal for three points bringing the score to 14-3. The Go-Devils answered the Panthers score when Lonnie Lacy scored his third touchdown of the game. An attempt for an extra point was successful, and with 9:40 to play in the first half, the Devils were ahead 21-3. With only 4:10 left in the half, Lacy completed a pass to junior Andrew Franklin who took the ball in for a touchdown. Another successful extra point attempt took the Devils to a 28-3 lead over the Panthers. During the last play of the first half, the Go-Devils managed to squeeze one last touchdown in with no time left on the clock. With a successful extra point attempt, the Devils went to the locker room ahead 35-3. The clock didnt stop in the second half after Lonnie Lacy ran 85 yards for a touchdown with only 12 seconds off the clock in the third quarter. A successful two point conversion pulled the Devils to a 43-3 lead, and the mercy rule was invoked. With the clock running continuously, the third quarter was completed without any additional points being added to the board. Early in the final quarter of play, the Devils ran the ball in for one last touchdown. An attempt for a two point conversion was not successful. With 10:40 to play in the ballgame, the Go-Devils were ahead 49-3. It seemed that the game would end without any other points being added to the board, but in the final play of the game, and with no time on the clock, the Panthers made a touchdown. An extra point attempt was successful, and the game ended with the Gurdon Go-Devils defeating the Fouke Panthers 49-10. The Go-Devils will play at home on Oct. 13 against Magnet Cove.
