Kiwanis to hold fish fry at PESBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune Members of the Prescott Kiwanis Club are planning a fish fry for Oct. 20, just before the Curley Wolves meet Centerpoint in the last home game of the football season. The Kiwanis event is slated for 5-7 p.m. at the Prescott Elementary School cafeteria. According to newly-installed president David Kassos, the club took over the fish fry last year, and it's now one of the major fundraising events for the Prescott Kiwanis. Kassos - an avid fisherman - said the one snag the club encountered during the 2005 fish fry was a shortage of fish. "I had to go into my personal fish stock for fillets," he said. The club has ordered more fish this year and are hoping for an even bigger turnout. During the Oct. 5 meeting, club members assigned duties and made final plans for the fish fry. Kassos, Glenn Vasser and Barry Barber will take on the tasks of cooking fish, French fries and hush puppies. Other club members volunteered to serve, prepare cole slaw and collect tickets. Club members also decided to have all members provide deserts for the event. We want to invite everyone to come out, Kassos said. Kiwanis members have advance tickets, but tickets will also be available at the door. The cost is $7. For more information, call Kassos at 887-2441.
