Officers with the Prescott Police Department had been on the lookout for a sex offender believed to be living in the area for several months. Friday, Sept. 6, officers got the break they needed to make an arrest.

Raymond Charles Stokes of Louisiana was arrested by Prescott Assistant Police Chief Ann Jordan and Prescott Detective David Thomason around 3 p.m. as Stokes was driving along East First Street. According to Jordan, local law enforcement was aware that Stokes had been living in the area, but had been unable to catch up with the man.

Weve been trying to track him down for awhile, Jordan said during a telephone interview shortly after the arrest.

Jordan said Stokes vehicle was spotted Friday in town, giving officers a chance to make a traffic stop. Jordan said Stokes was taken to Nevada County Jail.

In other recent activity, officers have made two drug arrests. Aaron Dewayne Smith, 34, 805 E. Seventh St., Hope, was arrested Oct. 2 for possession of marijuana. Rodger Williams, 422 W. Elm St., was arrested Oct. 4 for possession of a controlled substance described as an off-white rock. K9 Officer Duchess was involved with both searches.
