The City of Gurdon will have one less monthly payment to make, thanks to a grant from the Horace C. Cabe Foundation.

According to Gurdon City Recorder Tambra Childres, the city recently received a grant in the amount of $17,715 to pay off the remaining balance owed for a police car purchased last year. She said the city had financed the vehicle through First State Bank. To date, the city had made 16 payments of approximately $500 each on the vehicle.

The city reportedly took delivery of the car in June 2005 at a cost of $20,362. At that time the city had been down to only one patrol car for several weeks due to mechanical problems with another car.

Childres said the money for the car was taken from the city's general fund. Now that the vehicle is paid for, that money can go to help provide other city services.

The city also received a $32,500 grant from the Cabe foundation for the construction of a storage building in which the city's Christmas decorations will be stored. Childres said the city has accumulated so many Christmas decorations that they have run out of room to store them. She said the city appreciates the Cabes efforts on behalf of the city of Gurdon.

"We're so grateful to the Cabe Foundation," Childres said.
