Meet the NC DeputyBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune Robert Missey has joined the Nevada County Sheriffs Office as a deputy, according to NCSO Sheriff-elect Bobby Carlton. Missey said law enforcement was the only career he ever seriously considered. At 14 years old, he joined the Police Explorers, a group designed to give youngsters a personal look at law enforcement. This is something Ive always wanted to do, he said during an interview Sept. 29. Missey has been on the job in Nevada County for three weeks, and said its quite a change from his position with the Cave Springs Police Department, where he worked as a K-9 handler. Missey is a native of Hope and a graduate of Hope High School. He said his parents, Austin and Sharon Missey, have a home in Hope. Those ties are among the reasons Missey chose to make the move back to south Arkansas. He said he moved away right after high school, But it was time to come home. Missey said hes a graduate of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Springdale, and that he has achieved his certification in K-9 handling. He said he would like to advance that training and that he hopes to see the county eventually obtain another drug dog.
