Walter Ridgell

Walter Barham Ridgell, 89, of Little Rock, passed away Sept. 14, 2006. He was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Prescott, the son of Walter Ridgell and Sallie Barham Ridgell.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a cabinetmaker for Mechanics Lumber and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a Mason and an ordained Deacon at Indian Springs Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Ridgell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Stuart Ridgell; his children, Mary Stanton and her husband Ted of Alexander, Sandra Kay Sipes and her husband Mike of Alexander, and Bob Ridgell and his wife Ann of Oologah, Okla.; grandchildren, Mark, Alisa, and Eric Stanton, Kevin Ridgell, Krista Crenshaw, Scott and Michael Shearer, Melissa Halley, Lynn Melikian, Karen and Michael Sipes; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 16, at 10 a.m. at Indian Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Williams and Rev. R.D. Harrington officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Stanton, Scott Shearer, Kevin Ridgell, Michael Shearer, Bruce Crenshaw, Baker Halley and Tom Smart. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Stanton, Michael Sipes, Tommy Young and members of the Senior Adult Men's Bible Class. Burial followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Family received friends Friday, September 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock.
