Mary Ann Rogers HarrisPublished Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneSixty-seven years and five months ago on October 1, 1931, Elbert and Augusta Rogers were blessed with a daughter, Mary Ann. She was the youngest of six children. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Harris, by her parents and three sisters; Nominee Brewer, Marie Tidwell and Catherine Rogers. Mary Ann departed this earthly tabernacle March 11, 1999, at 2:26 a.m. and went to her heavenly home. She received her early education in Ouachita County and graduated from Oak Grove High School in Nevada County. She was an employee of the Long Meadow Nursing Home for 23 years. Mary Ann joined the Zion Hill AME Church at an early age and was actively involved in every area of service. She later moved her membership to the New Zion Hill Missionary Church, where she remained faithful until death. She was a member of the Two Bayou Volunteer Fire Department and she also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Ferdinand Chapter 138. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Lewis H. Harris in 1952. Unto this union 12 children were born. Two preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing five sons: Lewis Edward, Michael, Ricky (Margaret), Terry and Benjamin (Sandra) of Camden; five daughters: Carrie Bowie, Marilyn Harris and Tiquita Harris of Camden, Gwen Tanner (Terry) of Little Rock, and Mary Ross (Clyde) of Ft. Polk, La.; one brother, William Rogers of Camden; one sister, Versie Clark of Santa Monica, Calif., 18 grandchildren; a godson, Rev. T.W. Scott of Pine Bluff; a goddaughter, Emma Scott of Camden; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Her funeral was Saturday, March 13.
