Getting ready for the county fair

From the sights of neon lighting up the evening sky to the delighted shrieks of those brave enough to get on a ride, there are few things more exciting than the county fair.

The fair pageant promises to be a grand event with several Nevada County beauties ready to compete for category titles. Theres to be a rodeo this year, and a Grand Ol Hayride featuring some of the top names in local entertainment.

The annual Health Fair will officially kick off the county fair. Residents and visitors are encouraged to find time to make this event for the latest in health news and information. Basic health screenings will be offered, including eye screenings for children, provided by the Prescott Lions Club.

The fair parade will be Sept. 19 and those entering are encouraged to keep the fair theme - A Diamond in the Rough - in mind.

The following is a schedule of events for the Nevada County Fair. For more information, contact any fair board member or the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce at 887-2101.

Beginning Friday, September 15, 2-4 p.m. items may be entered in school arts, crafts, photography only.

Saturday, September 16 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. is the Nevada County Health Fair and at 6 p.m. there is a rodeo event.

Sunday, September 17 there is a gospel singing and from 3-5 p.m. is Educational and Commercial Booth set-up. Monday, September 18 at 10 a.m. there is a chamber of commerce coffee at the Chamber of Commerce sponsored by the Nevada County Fair Queens. From 3-6 p.m. items may be entered in arts, crafts, photograph; baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops, and furniture. Educational and Commercial boot set-up at this time. Live stock to be entered, poultry and rabbits.

Tuesday, September 19 from 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m. items may be entered in arts, crafts, photograph; baked goods, quilts, household articles, food preservation, fall gardens, field crops, and furniture. At noon is the official judging of flower show exhibits. From noon-8 p.m. livestock can be entered, such as, cattle, swine, sheep and goats. At 5 p.m. the carnival midway opens. At 6 p.m. the Nevada County Fair parade starts.

Wednesday, September 20 at 3 p.m. exhibit buildings open and the carnival midway opens. At 5:30 p.m. there will be a livestock show and 6 p.m. is the rain date for the fair parade.

Thursday, September 21 at 3 p.m. the carnival midway opens. At 5 p.m. the exhibit buildings open. At 5:30 p.m. is the livestock premium buyers meal. And at 6 p.m. is the fair pageant for the baby miss, ages 0-24 months, tiny miss, ages 2-3 years, little miss, ages 4-5 years, and petite miss, ages 6-7 years. At 6:30 p.m. is the livestock premium sale.

Friday, September 22, the carnival midway opens at 3 p.m. and at 5 p.m. the exhibit buildings open.

Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m. the carnival midway opens. At 5 p.m. the exhibit buildings open. At 6 p.m. is the fair queen pageant for young miss, ages 8-10 years, junior miss, ages 11-12 years, teen miss, ages 12-15 years, and fair queen, ages 16-21 years. At 9 p.m. the livestock are released.

Sunday, September 24 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. you may pick up your items.
