What we need is often near usBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, August 30, 2006 in the Gurdon Times My wife and I got out and looked around on Saturday, Aug. 19, as it was time to shop for an A to B car for my daughter Kelley. For those of you who are not familiar with the term A to B, it simply means getting from point A to point B safely and repeatedly. The first place we looked was our neighbors yards to see if there were any "for sale" signs. Michelle and I had two great automobile deals to fall through locally so we took off for Arkadelphia and even ended up exploring Prescott. Then I went home and called a friend, who I do business with about every day, to see if he might know of an A to B car. I found out Brian is a mechanic and in the process of redoing an engine on a 1995 Cavalier with intentions to sell that car. Bingo! Many times in life that seems to be what happens. We look everywhere in the world to solve a problem except our own backyard. I know most people in Gurdon are more concerned with school supplies, getting used to school schedules than they probably are in buying cars. But having the kids in school will feel normal again in a little while. I would rather talk about the weather. Before I leave the weather comment section, let me talk a bit about the shower that happened on Monday afternoon, Aug. 21. Aug. 21 was a significant day, in that school started and it finally rained a little. When that wet stuff started falling on my car, I had to get outside and allegedly take pictures. Man, it was rain! Thats what I am talking about. It is so rare in Gurdon, we all need to put an umbrella on the calendar. Forest Festival This years Gurdon Forest Festival is shaping up. We are going to have a well-known entertainer for the nights dancing experience and a haunted house for our children, young and old, to enjoy. The cool breezes of fall will bring some sort of answer beyond drinking plenty of water to feeling so exhausted from being overheated that sleeping is the only thing that sounds good. The natural cool air will revive us and it will be there, just like the prospect of a good car for my daughter and grandson came up after a long days search. Indeed, what we search for is many times tagging along within us, just waiting to be recognized. Either that, or the answer is over the next hill in our travels. Until next time, this is John, still on his Journey. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
