Mildred BittlePublished Wednesday, August 16, 2006 in the Gurdon TimesMildred Bittle, age 77 of Whelen Springs died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Arkansas Childrens Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mattie (Stratton) and Durwood Vanmeter. Mildred was a member of Beirne Baptist Church, retired from Levi Strauss and a caregiver. She was preceded in death by husband, George Bittle, Jr., son Donald Wayne and brother Buddy Vanmeter. Survivors include one son, Tommy Bittle of Memphis, Tenn.; three daugthers, Judy (Calvin) Tidwell of Arkadelphia, Wanda (Steve) Coon of Gurdon and Loretta (Steve) Shepherd of Arkadelphia; one sister, Mary Lou Garner of Beirne; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchidren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Henson officiating. Interment will be in Harts Chapel Cemetery near Curtis.
