Fans of the Prescott Curley Wolves will be seeing some differences on the field this season, but Prescott Head Coah Greg Smith said he's not ready to give away too much of the team's strategy.

Smith addressed members of the Prescott Rotary Club on Aug. 19.

Smith, accompanied by two additional mebers of the Prescott coaching staff, told Rotarians about the team's summer practice schedule and some of the off-field activities.

"The kids are loving the way we practice," Smith said.

He said some of those practice sessions have been about more than football plays. He cited one trip in which players hit the lake for a time of fun.

"On the field, we're going to be okay," Smith said. "We're going to be able to do some things this year."

Smith said there are 53 players on the Curley Wolves roster. With the exception of one player who has been out with an injury, all have been on the summer practice field.

"We want you to see what we're putting together," Smith said.

Fans will have the opportunity to do just that Thursday night, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m. when the Curley Wolves meet on the scrimmage field. Admission at the gate is a video tape, or a maroon or white towel.

Coach Brian Glass, offensive coordinator, said one of the changes has to do with talent, and that it means players are doing double duty on the field.

"We've got some guys who are going to play a little bit of two-way," Glass said. "They're that good."

Coach Robert Pool, offensive line, spoke to the talent combined with their dedication.

"They're working hard," Pool said. "We've got a lot more depth than we had."

One of the changes that will be very evident to players this season has to do with the opposition. The season's lineup reflects the new conference. Prescott has landed in the 7 AAA conference along with Gurdon, Lafayette County, Fouke, Horatio, Magnet Cove, Centerpoint and Bismarck.

But not all teams represent equal challenges, according to Smith.

He spoke of the "blood rivalry" between Prescott and Gurdon and predicted that particular game would be an incredible match. Coaches in the district have predicted that Prescott will finish the season second behind the Gurdon Go-Devils.

The week nine opposition is being coached by Smith's younger brother.

"That may be a good football game," Smith said. Then he laughed and told Rotarians that the rivalry for that game would likely be both on and off the field.

He said the conference games overall represent a good lineup for the Wolves.

"The coference will definitely be different," Smith said. "It's goin gto

be a little more level playing field."

He said the number of players and the number of coaches between Prescott and the opposing teams in this conference are closer to equal. He cited some previous years and the vast differences.
