Musician sought for Forest FestivalBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in the Gurdon Times It has come to my attention that new and different plans are being made for Forest Festival 2006. It will be my third Forest Festival and I have really been enjoying the deal so far. As for the plans to expand, maybe we can. I like the idea of having a bigger music show on Saturday night, as I love live music. When I was 15, I picked up a guitar and wrote 150 songs. I guess I stopped writing songs about the time I turned 30. I have written very few in recent years. But Jody Evans and his success is the envy of me and every other hobby music man. I believe with all of the enthusiasm Tambra Childres has about getting him to Forest Festival, it just may happen. I was telling somebody the other day, even if all of a persons dreams and desires dont come true, we need to count it a privilege to try to make them do so. And if Malverns Brickfest can get an up and coming country music star to play there, we just might pull it off in Gurdon. Right now, we need to be thinking of that cool October night weather so famous around here when Forest Festival time comes. I mean who wants to dwell on the fact that the bank thermometer has been saying temperatures like 104, thus the expression, "hotter than the 4th of July!" In addition to Tambras efforts to get Jody Evans to put on a show for Gurdon, she mentioned Nascar. I can go for that too. Having grown up 50 miles from the Indy 500, racing seems like a natural thing for me to like. I remember spending a bit of time fishing or biking, while listening to the roar of the radio as Al Uncer won another 500 back in the 1970s. Those were happy times. I also liked a driver named Lloyd Ruby. I cannot remember whether he ever won or not. So yes, a race car and the opportunity to have a photo of me next to it would attract me at Forest Festival. And I bet it would attract a lot of people. If you have any activities you would like to see included at the festival, feel free to write me a letter to the editor with your suggestions. Until next time, this is John, still on his Journey. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
