Break-in at high school results in missing laptop computerBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The Gurdon High School complex was burglarized at three different entrances sometime between Saturday, July 8, and Monday, July 10. A Gurdon Police Department report said a lap-top computer and camcorder, with a total value of $1,500, have been reported missing. The school is at 777 S. Highway 67. Marshal Don Childres said entry was forced at the high school, with the east door glass being broken out. He said doors were then beaten to gain entry. Forced entry was also made to the Cabe Middle School and to the sports field house. Childres said Thursday, July 13, "I believe it happened sometime on Saturday night and the people were looking for money. Officer Darrin Cooper and I went out to investigate the break-in. We called the Clark County Sheriffs Criminal Investigation Department in to help and the case is still under investigation by Gurdon and the county." Childres said he does not believe anything else is missing from the three locations. "When they could not find the money they were after, it appears they left," Childres said. Gurdon Superintendent Bobby Smithson said the schools insurance should cover the damage done to gain entry to the three buildings. "We will have to replace four lock sets on doors at $100 each, and a couple of windows," Smithson said. "We may not know for sure if anything else is missing until the teachers get back this fall and look around." In other police news, a burglary at Kasual Kutts Barber Shop, 304 South Fourth Street, reportedly occurred over the same weekend. Gurdon Police Officer Chris Russell reported that $10 in coins were missing after someone apparently went into the barber shop through a window. Officer Russells report indicate that the incident is considered a felony commercial burglary. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
