PPD nabs wallet thief

Officers from the Prescott Police Department have arrested a man who broke into a car at the city pool on July 14. Brandon Burton, 19, was taken into custody about 10 minutes after officers received a report of a stolen purse.

Prescott Police Chief Brian Russell said the victim described a black man, dressed in black and red, who had run away to the northwest on foot. According to Russell, several city officers began combing the area and almost immediately found someone who identified Burton as the person whod fled the scene.

Russell said that he, PPD Assistant Chief Ann Jordan and Deputy David Thomason are familiar with the suspect.

We started looking for him in the High Meadows area where he was known to be staying, Russell said.

Officers saw Burton running from the area on foot and apprehended him in a meadow behind the apartment complex.

Russell said Burton was taken into custody and will be charged with theft of property, breaking or entering and fleeing. Burton had reportedly taken a wallet containing some cash, credit cards and a check book from the victims car.
