A traffic stop that was initiated because of factitious tags turned into a drug bust for Prescott Police Officers.

Angela Dillard Mitchell of Rosston was driving in the city limits when she was stopped because of the problem with the tags, according to information from the Prescott Police Department.

Ann Jordan, assistant chief of police, and detective David Thomason were on patrol on Elm Street on July 5 when they first saw the vehicle driven by Mitchell, according to the PPD statement. When they requested information from dispatch regarding the tag number, they were informed that the tags were registered to a vehicle other than the one Mitchell was driving.

The officers made a traffic stop based on that information. Mitchell identified herself to the officers. Officers checked the status of Mitchells license as part of the routine traffic stop and were told the license was suspended. There was also an active warrant for Mitchells arrest from a law enforcement agency in Lafayette County, according to information from the PPD. The information does not indicate any details related to that outstanding warrant.

A release issued by Prescott Police Chief Brian Russell states, in part, Officers searched Mitchells person and vehicle where an off-white substance believed to be crystal meth was found.

Following that discovery, Mitchell was arrested for possession of crystal methamphetamine, a controlled substance. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license and improper display of tags.

According to information from the PPD, Mitchell is being held pending court proceedings in the case.
