Prscott man dies in June 23 accidentBy Wendy LedbetterPublished Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune A Prescott man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 67 just north of the Clark County line on June 23. According to information from the Arkansas State Police, Jose M. Ortiz, 18, 353 West Main St., Prescott, was traveling south on Highway 67 when he veered off the road and struck a guard rail. He then hit the concrete bridge abutment head-on. The report indicates that the accident occurred at 9:21 a.m. and that Ortiz was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident. There were no visible signs of skid marks or any apparent attempt to try to stop the vehicle prior to impact, the report states. Ortiz was driving a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria. Weather conditions were listed as clear and the road was reportedly dry at the time of the accident. Arkansas State Police Cpl. David Forthman filed the preliminary fatal crash report that was available at press time. According to Forthmans report, Ortiz was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
