James Hawthorne was born on Sept. 24, 1923, to Ollie and Sallie Hawthorne. Both preceded him in death.

He departed this life on June 5, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia in the morning hours.

He united with the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in the early part of his life. He was a Veteran of World War II.

He was also a lumber grader for Frazile Brothers, Barringer and Sons, and I.P. Lumber Company. He loved attending Sunday School.

He also loved the Lord and his family. His favorite song was, "When the Saints Go Marching In." His favorite scripture was Psalms 23.

He enriched the lives of many. He had a loving wife, Fannie Hawthorne; six children, Margaret Hampton of Fayetteville, Willard and Maxine Hawthorne of Gurdon; Charles and Brenda Hawthorne of Rochester, New York; Betty Gulley of Gurdon, Shirley and Floyd Sims of Bluff City; Jimmy and Joyce Hawthorne of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, George Hawthorne of Gurdon, David and Ruth Hawthorne of Arkadelphia; four sisters, Juanita Williams, Burnita Hawthorne, both of Galveston, Texas; Naomi Samuels of Joliette, Illinois; Wilma Brown of San Diego, California; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was loved by a host of nephews and nieces, and many friends.

A special thanks goes to his care giver, Essie Jackson.
