Picking people up who are under 18 and taking them home is becoming an every night affair for Gurdon police officers.

Marshal Don Childres said June 15 that curfews in the summertime are always more of a problem than during the school year because so many youth are idle.

"We would like to remind people that we do enforce curfews in this town if you are under 18," he said. "For Sunday through Thursday, those under 18 must be home by 11 p.m. If it is Friday or Saturday night, they can stay out until midnight."

Childres said he and his officers pick up someone under age almost every night and take them home.

According to the Childres, those out on the streets are naturally his suspects if any vandalism or mischief happens.

"We understand when somebody is out late one time, but those who stay out all the time need to be aware their parents can be charged a fine of up to $500," he said. "We know it is summer and we want people to enjoy themselves. But our young people need to watch the clock and obey curfew laws."
