Thelma HowellPublished Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in the Gurdon TimesThelma Lucille Howell, 85, of Arkadelphia, formerly of Gurdon, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at the Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She was born Nov. 7, 1920 in Curtis, the daughter of the late Horace and Lura Belle Brakefield Arnold. She owned and operated the Daisy Queen Cafi in Gurdon for over 25 years and attended Third Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hess Howell; two brothers, Charles and J.W. Arnold; and one sister, Jean Cagle. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Knight of Arkadelphia and Betty Stoudt and husband, Ted of Gurdon; two brothers, Duke Arnold of Murfreesboro and Horace Arnold of California; two grandchildren, Tanya Dixon and husband, Randy of Arkadelphia and Kristin Jester of Gurdon; four great-grandchildren, Hayley and Jeffrey Dixon of Arkadelphia, Railey William and Devan Jester both of Gurdon; numerous nieces and nephews along with a special friend, Raymond Deardorff of Murfreesboro. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, in Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel with Rev. Greg Lathem officiating. Interment was in Easley Cemetery near Gurdon. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were James and Wayne Arnold, Ronnie and Sonny Cagle, Jimmy Wright, Gary Plyler, Bill Gates and Jerry Langley.
