GHS announces 2006 sports awardsBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The annual Gurdon High School sports banquet took place in the middle of May with the following students being honored for the 2005-06 school year. In football, Gurdon Head Coach John Pace said the Go-Devil Award went to Camron Kennedy. The offensive back awards went to Kentrell Green and Jonathon Lacy. The lineman award went to Robert Plyler and the most improved went to Zach Duncan. Go-Devils making All-District for the 2005 fall season were: Robert Plyler, Camron Kennedy, Kentrell Green, Jonathon Lacy, Daniel Francis, Jerome Pollins, Kenneth Harper, Dusty Craig and Deandre Williams. As to All-State, those awards went to Robert Plyler and Jerome Pollins. Receiving honorable mention for All-State were Kenneth Harper and Camron Kennedy. Boys Basketball Head Coach Bryan Biley presented the following awards for boys basketball. The All-State award this year went to Jerome Pollins. All-District players were Jerome Pollins, Camron Kennedy, Kentrell Green and Roman Montgomery. Kentrell Green made the All-State Tournament Team. As to Go-Devil awards within the school, the offensive award went to Jerome Pollins, the defensive award to Kentrell Green and the most improved to Darwin D.D. Davis. The rebounding award went to Camron Kennedy, the hustle award to Rashed Ritchie and the Most Valuable Player award to Camron Kennedy. Girls Basketball Coach Eric Allen made the presentations when it came to girls basketball. For rebounding, with the Lady Go-Devils, the honors go to Sara Boyce. Robin Robertson got the award for the most hustle. Chrisella Thompson won the offensive award. Defense honors went to Bridgette Lester. The most improved Lady Go-Devil was Tynesha Ivory, and the Most Valuable Player is Shunta Bell. Baseball In baseball, Coach Pace made the presentations. For the best offensive player, it was Casey McNabb; best defensive player, Brady Vandiver; most improved, Jeff Henry; and the Go-Devil award went to Jack Woolf. Jack Woolf and Shawn McDaniel made All-District for baseball. Softball Coach Todd Lewis made the softball awards presentations. The Go-Devil award went to Ashley Berry; offensive award, Ashlyn Escalante; defensive award, Britney Farris, Most Valuable Player award, Callie King and most improved, Haley Drake. Callie King, Meghan Robbins and Sara Boyce made All-District. Track Coach Hank Lewis and Coach Brandie Kirkpatrick gave a cross country track award to Tori Morehead and the Go-Devil track award to Ashley Berry. Tennis Coach Beth Miller made the tennis awards presentations, as she coached both boys and girls. In boys, Cody Miller and Beau McKenzie were both All-District in boys doubles. As for girls, Cadee Miller and Meghan Robbins were both All-District in girls double. Coach Pace said, "I would like to congratulate all of our 2005-2006 athletes and invite everyone to be watching our football team this fall."
