School Board has special session to select new assistant principalBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The assistant principals position was reportedly the top item on the agenda of the Gurdon School Board during a special meeting held May 30. According to Gurdon Superintendent Bobby Smithson, the list was narrowed to four applicants. Charles Failla, high school assistant principal, resigned his position effective at the end of this school year to become the full-time computer technical advisor for the school. Board members are now considering Scott Jones of Arkadelphia, John Orr of Sheridan, Jay Holland of Lamar, and Jim Bouie of Arkadelphia. "We are planning another special school board session on Tuesday, June 6, to make our final selection for the assistant principal spot," Smithson said. "That personnel meeting will start at 6 p.m." In other business at the first executive session meeting, Smithson said two aids who are certified teachers will be assigned to classrooms next year. Jonell Fortham will teach third grade next fall. Brittany Rogers will teach fourth grade in the fall. No decision has been made concerning the high school biology teaching position for the fall.
