Writer started young on storiesBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in the Gurdon Times Sometimes I wonder about myself and my love for writing. I suppose every dedicated workman of prose has a similar story. I became a writer at 8 years old, when I took off on a short story about vampires and werewolves. Then, a long about 1980, I began writing for newspapers; mostly weekly newspapers because the dailies tell too many sad stories for my liking. As most of you know, I like to promote Gurdon, not do things to tear it down. I guess that comes from having been a publisher for 15 years. Working for myself, I discovered how easy it is to get torn down and how hard it is to get built back up. Gurdon has recently acquired two new businesses, the Walnut Street Cafi and Ravens Coffee House. Both are needed here. Both deserve a visit. If Gurdon is going to survive, even as a top-rate bedroom community, then we need a little bit of cash flow. Thanks to both business owners for taking a chance on this little town I have grown to love. Peaceful town As we journey through this life, not everything will be pleasant. But in Gurdon, you can usually write your own serenity ticket if you try. The bells on the Presbyterian Church bring a smile to my face, especially on Wednesdays and Fridays when I normally do most of the weeks newspaper typing. This is John, still on his Journey.
