Joe Blanton tribute has big turn outBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, May 3, 2006 in the Gurdon Times My journey continues down the streets of Gurdon. Saturday night I attended the Joe Blanton concert tribute with my wife, Michelle. It was a good time and the place was pretty full. I would bet there was at least 150 in attendance, and all ages too. This was a good turn out, as there was a donkey basketball game going on at the other end of town for competition and we still had a big crowd. A drawing raised around $80 for the local food bank. Speeches were given and old friendships seemed rekindled. The songs were old style country at the Blanton tribute mostly, and it seemed like everyone enjoyed the music. In addition, I got to see several of the towns people dance that I had not even seen come out during Forest Festival. Mark Twain said life is too important to be taken seriously. Sometimes I believe he was right on the mark. We need a coffee shop and dance hall to unwind here in Gurdon. It is some place where the only thing being taken seriously is the quest to have a good time. Visited Kelley Before the Saturday night outing here, my wife and I adjourned to North Little Rock to visit Kelley Marie, my daughter. She is getting along great. Now more than six months pregnant, the blessed event is on her mind. We got her some baby stuff and visited with her a couple of hours before she had to go to work. She told us about her church and about getting to know her father-in-law. Mowing grass When I got back to Gurdon, I did not mow any grass. However, I did finally get to the lawn between church services on Sunday. I believe we have some new neighbors so getting the trimming done on the lawn may be just the thing to make them smile. Heres hoping your journey of life is going well. Mine is, for the most part. I believe we have to be thankful for the good times in order to expect God to provide us with more of them. This is John, still on his Journey. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
