Henry TaroniPublished Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in the Gurdon TimesHenry A. (Tony) Taroni of Newton, Texas, passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 16, 2006 at Plantation Health Care Center in Lake Jackson, Texas. He is survived by Ruby Taroni, his wife of 59 years, daughter Toni Stark and husband Donnie of Newton, Texas; son Thomas A. Taroni and wife Virginia of Lake Jackson; adopted daughter Debbie Battle of Big Spring, Texas; grandchildren Bill Edwards of Granger, Indiana, Tami McIntyre of Pearland, Texas, Tara Johnson of Riverside, Texas, Chelsa Leatherwood of Lake Jackson, Texas and Jason Taroni of Allen, Texas; and 5 great grandchildren. Tony was born on October 18, 1920 in Texarkana, Texas, the only child of Italian immigrants Ettore and Chelsa Taroni. He served his country in the United States Horse Cavalry during World War II. After moving to Gurdon, Arkansas and opening a Ben Franklin store, he married Ruby Leah Black and they had two children. He also worked for Reynolds Aluminum in Gum Springs, Arkansas. The family moved to Big Spring, Texas in 1961, where he worked for Sid Richardson Carbon Company until his retirement in1982. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Big Spring. In 2003, he and Ruby relocated to Newton in East Texas to be closer to family. They have been residents of Lake Jackson since March 3, 2006 The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the employees of Plantation Health Care in Lake Jackson for their loving and devoted care of Tony during his stay at their facility.
