Lady Go-Devils take out NevadaBy Greg McGillPublished Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The Lady Go-Devils softball team took out Nevada School, 7-5, in a home game victory Friday, April 7. It was a conference game and Nevada did their best, but that was just not good enough to pull ahead of the home team advantage Gurdon had that evening. Errors plagued the Go-Devils early in the game and Nevada prevailed taking the lead. Gurdon girls did not give up and things began to change in favor of the Lady Go-Devils. Calley King worked as the Go-Devil pitcher during the first inning, giving up a single run while striking out three Nevada batters. King set the pace for the Lady Go-Devils offensively, with three hits at the plate, including one RBI by Heather Drake. In the second inning, Nevada got a line drive and scored three times for Nevada. Gurdon came into the second inning. Cody Golden got a hit and stole home base. Nevada let Gurdon get a player on base seven more times. In the third inning, Lady Go-Devil Marty Robbins struck out one and walked one. Coming into the third inning, Golden scored for Gurdon. Robbins walked one from Nevada. In the fifth inning, the Gurdon Go-Devils came out to put them away. Golden got a hit and stole second and third base, then stole home for a run. Heather Prince got one RBI and stole second base. Sarah Boyce got one, and Robbins got an RBI. Jenny Smith stole third base and home for a Gurdon Lady Go-Devils win of 7-5. Junior Varsity loss The Gurdon Junior Varsity softball team lost to Nevada, 7-3 but gained may have gained vital experience. Nevada jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, though Gurdon players seemed to give it all they had. Ann Watson worked hard all three innings, with a few strikeouts. Watson walked three in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Sarah Boyce got a hit and stole second base. Heather Prince had one RBI, and Cody Golden got another RBI. Gurdon stole bases, putting runners on second and third but both were left on the field as the next two Lady Go-Devils batters failed, leaving Nevada to take the victory, 7-3.
