Gurdon plans clean up weekBy John NelsonPublished Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in the Gurdon Times The Gurdon citywide clean-up will be held from Monday, April 24 through Saturday, April 29. Citizens are invited to drag large, hard-to-dispose-of items to the curb, such as old refrigerators, couches, chairs, lamps and the like. "The clean-up week has been popular here for several years and we are glad to offer it again," Tambra Childres, treasurer and recorder, said. "This is also known as a weeks worth of Gurdon treasure hunting. We invite you to get rid of as much stuff as you need to part with. If you just dont need the something anymore, pass it on." Drag to curb Childres stressed that items need to be placed curbside for easy pick up by Gurdon Street Department employees. This is a household items pick-up service for the citizens of Gurdon. Items must be accessible from the curbside and not stored on a trailer. Place your items at curbside and then call the Gurdon City Hall at 353-2514 for pick up service. No calls will be accepted after 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Childres said to have all items ready for pick up when you call. Street department employees will pick up items only one time per household. "If time does not permit for your items to get picked up during the clean-up week, we will pick them up the following week," she said. "We accept appliances, furniture, old building materials, tires and household junk." She said no garbage, bagged items or canned foods will be accepted. "We will accept limbs cut in maximum of 4 foot lengths," Childres said. "Please put limbs and brush in a separate pile from your household items. She said limbs cut by professional trimming companies will not be picked up. One purpose of the annual clean-up week is to help get rid of items not normally picked up by the citys weekly garbage collection. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
