Residents of Nevada County saw something more than 5 inches of rainfall, depending on their location in the county. According to two local weather watchers, the precipitation for the month ranged from 5.31 inches in the Cale area to 6.61 inches in other parts of the county.

Davis Benton, weather watcher in Cale, also reported that most of the rain falling in that area occurred during the 18th, 19th and 20th. The total rainfall for the year, according to Benton, was 14.39 inches as of the end of March.

Phillip L. McAdams, another county weather watcher, reported that 5.7 inches of the rainfall he recorded also happened during this period of time. McAdams said that the county is up some 4 inches over the same time frame in 2005.

Temperatures remained fairly moderate throughout the month. McAdams reported that the county saw a high of 86 degrees on March 12 the highest during that month. Temperature readings of 30 degrees were reported on the 24th and 25th, with mean averages of 43 for the low and 69 for the high. Benton reported similar readings in Cale, with a high for the month of 82 and a low of 25.

On the subject of rain, McAdams reports that the rainfall he recorded during March was more than fell during any single month in 2005, even considering the months in which hurricanes hit our neighbors to the south.
