Tom Blevins, chairman of the Nevada County Republican Committee, lamented the lack of cooperation between parties in the county.

Its unfortunate in a community of this size, he said, not to have people of both parties get together, discuss the issues and work to solve problems.

Blevins said everyone here has views, whether they be Democrat or Republican, and its their right to voice their opinions. I tell people if they dont well get in bad situations. I also tell them if they dont vote they have no right to complain.

According to Blevins, residents of Nevada County tend to vote their conscience more than along party lines.

However, he said, both parties locally need to work together to try and solve problems. I have no idea how to get people together, though. Ive called people, Ive advertised meetings in the paper, but no one shows up.

Blevins said people need to get more involved in the political process because the decisions being made at the local, state and national level affect all of our lives. He said people need to write or call their representatives and let them know what they think on different issues.
