Billy Joe BlantonPublished Wednesday, March 15, 2006 in the Gurdon TimesKenny Haynie, 50, of Haynie Road in Gurdon, was arrested Friday, March 3 and charged with the delivery of a controlled substance meth amphetamine, a Class Y Felony. Gurdon Marshal Don Childres said Wednesday the arrest was made by five officers from a combination of staff from the Gurdon Police Department and the Clark County Sheriffs Office, after a sting operation resulted in Haynie making a deal to collect $200 for 2.6 grams of what appears to be meth at an undisclosed house in Gurdon. The substance, according to the Marshal, has been turned over to the Arkansas Crime Lab for chemical analysis. "We have every reason to believe it is meth," Childres said. "What people dont understand who deal in this very dangerous drug is that Clark County is not playing around. This guy could very well get a life sentence here for what he appears to have been caught red-handed doing." Police, Childres said, were waiting on Haynie and nabbed him and the substance in the act of the sale. Haynie, as of this writing, awaits a court date at the Clark County Jail, under a $50,000 bond. Of the investigation which led to the arrest, Marshal Childres said he and the sheriff have been working on this "bust" for several weeks. "We made a contact with him, using an unidentified subject," Childres said. "I do not want to get any more specific about our location than to say we were set up in a house in Gurdon city limits." Childres said the sting operation used to catch Haynie was done very professionally. "We had him (Haynie) to bring $200 worth of meth to the house. When he held the dope out, he got the money," the marshal said. "Then we cuffed him, read him his rights and took him to jail." Childres said this arrest is part of an ongoing effort by the Gurdon Police Department to reduce and/or eliminate the sale of controlled substances within the city limits of Gurdon.
