Got an idea for a new logo for the City of Prescott.

If so, it could mean a $50 gift certificate to some lucky person.

The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the City of Prescott Logo Contest. The citys current logo is City of Progress, but the city is looking to change this as the water tank is being painted for the first time.

Godwin said the guidelines the judges will be looking for include a short phrase and/or logo capturing the unique qualities of Prescott. Graphic designs are optional.

The city has the right to reject any and all entries and retain its current logo. The winning selection will become the citys property to use in its day-to-day business.

Any entry deemed unsuitable will be rejected by the judges. The winner, though, will receive a $50 gift certificate to use with local merchants.

The deadline for entering is March 10. Entries should be dropped off at the Chamber.

For more information call the Chamber at 887-2101.

Godwin said applications are being taken for the annual Chamber Scholarship at this time. Each year the Chamber gives two scholarships, valued at $250 each, to a pair of students from schools in Nevada County.

The students must be seniors at either Prescott High School, Nevada High School or Emmet High School with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 to be considered. However, she said, preference will be given to those with GPAs 3.0 or higher.

In addition, the students must plan on attending a two or four year college or technical school to be considered. They must submit two letters of recommendation with one being from a school counselor or teacher. The other letter should be from someone in their community or church. The applicants must also submit a paragraph on their planned career goals.

The deadline for applying for a Chamber scholarship is Feb. 28. Applications can be picked up from school counselors or at the Chamber.
