Rain finally arrivesBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, February 8, 2006 in the Nevada County Picayune Yes, there was weather during January, as 4.47 inches of rain was recorded in Prescott. Phil McAdams, local weather watcher, said this amount is above normal for January, but is less than the amount received in January 2005, which was 4.87 inches. Davis Benton, Cale meteorologist, said the south part of the county received 4.86 inches of rain, making it wetter than Prescott. He added, this amount was more rain than fell in the previous three months combined. The total from October through December, Benton said, was 3.43 inches. McAdams said the overall rainfall for 2005 was more than 40 percent below normal. Hopefully this pattern wont continue. The temperatures were widely varied as well. Benton said Cales high climbed to a balmy 82, while the lowest the mercury dropped in January was 25 degrees. According to McAdams, the new year opened with warm temperatures. In fact, he said the mercury rose to 76 on Jan. 1. The low was a frigid 26, recorded on Jan. 11-12. The average daily high, McAdams said was 64 degrees, high for January, while the low was 35 degrees. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
