Rev. John Carlton

Rev. John Henry Carlton, 88, of Bodcaw, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Medicalodge Progressive Care in Texarkana, Ark.

He was born onFebruary 18, 1917, in Bodcaw, to Charles Henry and Arbula Octavia Octo Lee. He was a retired minister, farmer, and former truck driver of Meyers Baker in Hope. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church of Bodcaw. He was a Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge in Centerville. He began his 44-year ministry in Knightons Chapel and retired in 1990 from Grace Baptist Church in Bingen, having served several other churches in the years between.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by one daughter, Brenda Banks; by one brother, Charles Carlton; and one sister, Beatrice Pine.

His survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Pearl Clements Carlton of Bodcaw; three sons, Dickie Carlton and Marilyn, Larry Carlton and Lana, and Randy Carlton and Sherry, all of Bodcaw; two daughters, Joy Chandler and Ronnie of Nashville and Jamie Whatley of Bodcaw; one son-in-law, Wayne Banks of Washington, Ark.; two brothers, Harlin Carlton of Bodcaw and William Hugh Carlton of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Marie Tye of Prescott and Vernita Ho of Bodcaw; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Bodcaw with Rev. Joe Brown officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Bodcaw. Arrangements by Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

Family received friends Saturday, January 28, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.
