It's getting close to crunch time for the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

At this time, ticket sales are going well for the banquet.

Once again, one of the highlights of the banquet, scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, will be the naming of the Citizen of the Year.

This year's banquet theme will have a tropical flavor "Aloha: Our Paradise Island". Godwin said those attending will be greeted by the 1998-99 Nevada County royalty and be given Hawaiian leis.

The servers will be appropriately dressed in grass skirts.

The third annual Chamber auction will be held at the banquet. One of the top items to be auctioned off will be a football autographed by the 1998 Arkansas Razorbacks.

This year's featured speaker will be KATV's Daybreak weatherman Matt Mosler.

There will be plenty more in store for the banquet attendees.

Along with the naming of the Citizen of the Year, each of the county's school districts will be naming their Teacher of the Year.

The Nevada County Farm Family of the Year, James and Kay Nelson of Bluff City, will be recognized at the banquet as well.

One of the newest, yet most coveted, awards is the Treasure of Gold Award. This will be the fourth year this honor will be bestowed on a local resident. The Treasure of Gold Award is presented to residents who have dedicated their lives to improving Prescott and Nevada County.

The first recipient was Horace McKenzie in 1995. Next to get the award was John Teeter, followed by Frances Thrasher and, last year's recipient, Maurice McLelland.

Other entertainment scheduled for the banquet will be the Sounds of Praise sextet.

The master of ceremonies for the banquet this year will be Chad Cornelius, Chamber president.

Tickets are on sale now and are available at the Bank of Prescott, the Branch Bank of Delight, at the Chamber or from any member of the Chamber board of directors. Tickets will be $15 each, with the banquet starting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 6.

Other Chamber events Godwin s working on include the annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Nevada County Courthouse lawn.

This year's Easter Egg hunt will take place Saturday, April 3 from 10-11:30 a.m.

The hunts will be broken down into five age groups starting with one and two year olds at 10 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m. will be those children 3 and 4 hunting eggs, while the 5-7 group will take center stage at 11 o'clock.

Hunting will end with the 8-10 group at 11:30 a.m.

A golden egg will be hidden for each category, with the finder getting a stuffed Easter bunny.

There will be plenty of Easter eggs, gifts and prizes for all who participate.

A concession stand will be available for mom and dad while the youngsters are hunting their treasures. Each egg found by those hunting will have a prize of some sort in them.

Along with hunting Easter eggs, the Chamber will have face painting and children can have their photos taken with the Easter bunny. There will also be a ring toss game, duck pond and balloons for the children.

Special entertainment for the hunt will be provided by the Artesian Arts League.

Each child must furnish their own Easter basket and be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.

There is no admission to the Easter Egg Hunt, and for more information call the Chamber at 887-2101.

Following Easter, the Chamber will present its annual Fashion Show and Luncheon.

This event is sponsored by the Prescott-Nevada County Retail Merchants and will be held Saturday, April 17, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

The theme of this year's show is "Spring Into Spring."

Tickets will be $7.50 each. The proceeds will be used by the Retail Merchant Committee for its annual projects.
