Nevada Countys Quorum Court got an update on economic events during its final meeting of 2005.

Donnie Crain, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, began by telling the justices of the peace he has been updating the areas web site, as it had been allowed to get out of date.

Prospects, he said, tend to check web sites first to see what an area has to offer. From there they make decisions as to whether said areas are worth further examination or not.

Crain informed the panel the Leadership Nevada County Class of 2005 graduated, with the Class of 2006 being inducted. The new class will begin its year with a two-day retreat at Grandview Plantation in Columbus.

There are 13 members in the Class of 06, he said, adding, It looks like a good group.

Recently there has been a request from residents concerning the need for a public swimming pool and/or recreation center. Crain said hes been working with Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor trying to find grants for such facilities. They have also been looking for grants to help improve the citys firefighting equipment as well.

Bids for the walking/jogging trail will be opened Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. For a variety of reasons, this project has been delayed more than a year. However, Crain said it is hoped this project will progress and be completed soon, but the completion date will be dependent on the weather.

Being new to the area, Crain has also been going around introducing himself to the heads of local businesses and industries, letting them know hes here and wanting to help them expand and grow.

When asked about the proposed overpass, Crain said the only thing he knows is the money for it has been set aside. Environmental studies will have to be done first, and it will be about a year after that before bids are let. It should be built in 2007, he said.
