Rose Garden Club

Published Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

Pauline Hays was hostess to Rose Garden Club on March 16 at 1:30 p.m. with Anice Ward serving as co-hostess.

Betty Turner, president, presided over the business session. She read a letter from the beautification committee of the Chamber of Commerce asking the club to purchase a tree in observance of Arbor Day. The members voted to purchase two Bradford pear trees to be planted in the downtown area.

The president appointed Ann Foster, Flo Brackman and Anice Ward to serve on the nominating committee.

Elizabeth Haltom presented the last of a series of lessons on flower design. She demonstrated two Hogarth art designs suitable for a buffet, tea or reception table tables at which no one is seated.

For one design she used Rose of Sharon, daffodils, and variegated ebony moss in a brass compote. For the second design she used crabapple, ivy and flowering almond to create the design using a tall green container.

Her table appointments, cloth, candles and designs were all compatible. She also pointed out that the flowers should be in harmony with the container.

She stated that the Hogarth design was created by William Hogarth of England in the 18th century.

The group found this series of lessons to be most enjoyable and informative.

Jeanie Wilson of Columbus will hold a seminar on 'Herbs' for the May meeting. The president urged all members to make plans to attend this meeting.

The hostess served a delicious dessert plate using the Easter motif.
