It was a tale of two halves for the Prescott Curley Wolves against the Hope Bobcats in basketball action.

The teams locked up Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Prescott Athletic Sports Complex, with Prescott falling short 57-48.

The Wolves opened well, dominating the first quarter. Prescott had several opportunities to score first, but was unable to find the bottom of the bucket. Hope managed the games first points, but could only watch as the home team ran out to a 10-6 lead at the end of one.

The Cats fired back in the second quarter, outscoring Prescott 17-11 to take a 23-21 lead to the locker room at the break.

Hope scored first in the second period, only to see Prescott reel off five quick points to go up 15-8. Turnovers, though, killed the Wolves and allowed the Cats to not only stay in the game, but take the lead.

In the second half the Cats began pulling away, taking a 41-33 lead at the end of the frame. Early on, though, it was an up and down game until Hope found a way inside for some easy baskets.

During the final eight minutes of the game, the Cats packed the paint, making it all but impossible for the Wolves to get a decent shot. Still Prescott battled, fighting for everything the team earned.

Roshaud Williams led the way for the Wolves with 13 points, while B. J. Burnell added 12.

Justin Stuart was the games leading scorer with 28 for Hope. Reggie Carrigan chipped in 10.

Prescott was six of 19 from the charity stripe, while Hope hit six of 12 free throws.

PRESCOTT 74

NEVADA 60

Prescott opened the season with a convincing win over the Nevada Blue Jays, 74-60.

The Wolves took control early, jumping out to a 22-15 lead at the end of one, only to see the Jays fight back and cut the lead to 34-31 at the half.

The game remained close in the third quarter, with Prescott leading 48-44, before pulling away in the final eight minutes of the contest.

The Wolves were 10-22 from the stripe, while Nevada was seven of 10.

Burnell sank 20 to lead the Wolves, with Wilson adding 17 an J. Brown scoring 14.

Nevada was led by Desmond Baileys 23, followed by Jon Evanss 15.

WOLVERETTES 20

LADY CATS 25

Free throws proved to be the difference in the game between Prescotts Wolverettes and the Hope Lady Bobcats. The Lady Cats hit 11 of 16 and managed to post a 25-20 win.

Though both teams hustled up and down the court the entire game, neither showed the ability to score consistently.

In fact, the game was scoreless for almost three minutes until Hope managed to sink one at the 5:16 mark. The problem for both teams was the offenses were unable to overcome the defenses.

By the end of the first eight minutes of play, Hope held an 8-2 lead.

Period two was pretty much a mirror image of the first quarter, as the two defenses dominated, keeping the offenses from putting points on the board. Hope outscored the Wolverettes 6-4 in the frame to lead 14-6 at the break

The Wolverettes showed signs of life in the third quarter, putting a dozen on the board, while allowing the Lady Cats only six points in the period

Hope scored first, only to see a more aggressive Wolverette team respond. Prescotts players were all over the court on both sides of the ball.

By the end of three, the score was 20-18, but still in Hopes favor.

The Wolverettes were unable to put points on the board in the fourth quarter, while the majority of Hopes came from the line. Still, only seven points were scored in the eight minutes of play.

Daloris Stueart led Prescott with eight points.

Ashley Moore was the games leading scorer with 11 for Hope.

Prescott was 0-1 at the line, while Hope hit 11-16.

WOLVERETTES 41

LADY BLUE JAYS 31

Prescott opened the season with a solid 41-31 win over the Lady Blue Jays of Nevada.

The Lady Jays opened by taking a 12-7 lead at the end of one, but the Wolverettes battled back to go up 20-16 at the half.

Prescott netted 13-21 from the free throw line, while Nevada was 4-14.
