William Cole

Published Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in the Nevada County Picayune

William Marion Cole, 72, of Tates Bluff and most recently of Trinity, Texas, peacefully slipped into Gods presence November 19, 2005, after a valiant battle against a debilitating neurological disorder.

William was born in Camden, March 6, 1933. He attended Prescott public schools graduating in 1951. He then attended Southern Arkansas University, the University of Houston and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958.

Though Williams work history included both the insurance and teaching fields, he was proudest of his 25 years as caretaker of the Tate-McGill home place and his familys prominence at the University of Arkansas.

At Tates Bluff, he was an active member and officer of Tatess Bluff Presbyterian Church. In 2003, he moved to Trinity, and as a member of First United Methodist Church, this loving church family supported him throughout his illness.

William is survived by his brother, James Minto Cole and wife Sue, and their Houston sons, David and wife Dr. Peggy Osbourn; Bobby Cole and son, Michael, Richard and wife Karen Robinson Cole, and their son, Kaleb, Tom Cole and wife, Joyce Janda Cole, and their children Marshall and McKenzie of Nashville, Tenn.; cousins from both the Cole and McGill families also survive him.

His parents, Ann McGill Cole and James Alvin Cole preceded him in death.

Our family wishes to express our deep appreciation to the loving staff at Avalon Place Healthcare Center for the exceptional care given him since July 2004 and to Odyssey Hospice in his last days.

Service was led by the Reverend Gary Martin at 10 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2005, at Tates Bluff Presbyterian Church with burial at Missouri Cemetery. Richard Cole played memorial bagpipes. In lieu of flowers, memorials in remembrance of William may be sent to Tates Bluff Presbyterian Church, Chidester, Ark. 71726; or First United Methodist Church, PO Box 31, Trinity, Texas 75862.

Active pallbearers were Sam Dickinson, Bruce McGill, Bobby McGill, Ben Cole, Jr., Bill Bacon, Bill Whitehall, Tom Drew and John Henry Tate.
