Whether anyone likes it or not, the holiday season has arrived, and with it a flurry of events from the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce.

Once again, the Chamber will host the parade of homes decoration contest, along with the best decorated windows for businesses.

The best decorated business window contest, along with the parade of home competition for residents of the city and county. Godwin said the businesses will be judged Monday, Dec. 5, as will the homes.

For the parade of homes, there are three categories: best lighted display, best unlighted display and best theme.

The winners will be announced at Christmas on the Square, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8, following the annual Chamber Christmas Parade.

Those participating in the parade are asked to register between 4-4:45 p.m. The judging will be done at 5 oclock, with the parade kicking off at 6 with this years theme being The Sights and Sounds of Christmas, Godwin said. There will be cash prizes for the best floats, mini float, decorated car/truck, decorated bicycle, all-terrain vehicle, golf cart, best animal costume and best marching group. There will be an overall theme winner, which will receive a traveling trophy.

The prizes in the float division: first place, $100; second place, 75; third place, 50; fourth place, 25; and fifth place 15. The winner of the mini-float category will bank $25 in cash. The car/truck winner will go home $20 richer.

The prize for the winners of the best decorated bicycle, all-terrain vehicle, golf cart, animal and best marching group is $10.

At the conclusion of the parade, which ends up at the Courthouse Square, Christmas on the Square begins.

The entertainment kicks off with the Prescott High School Marching Wolf Pride Band giving a Christmas concert. This will be followed by the Presbyterian Preschool children singing Christmas carols, and Brandi Karlovec singing as well. In addition, the Central Baptist Youth Choir will perform, as will the Central Baptist Church ministers.

The winners of the different events will also be named at this time as well.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be inside the courthouse finding out what the little boys and girls want for Christmas this year. Children can have their pictures taken with Santa for $2, Godwin said.

The 4-H groups will be selling hot chocolate and cookies during Christmas on the Square.

In addition, the Prescott Lions Clubs annual auction will begin on Dec. 8, finishing up on Dec. 9.

Christmas on the Square will be concluded once again with the snowball avalanche, Godwin said. The avalanche has ping pong balls with discounts to local businesses written on them. Those who get the balls can turn them in to the proper business for the discounts.
