Sanford Hooker

Mr. Sanford L. Hooker, Sr., 80, of De Queen, died Monday, October 17, 2005 in the De Queen Medical Center in De Queen.

He was born to Thomas Julian and Ida Wilson Hooker, on September 15, 1925, at Amity. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with U.S. Army First Cavalry. He was a heavy equipment operator, as well as a cattle and poultry rancher. He was a member of the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, and the Sweet Home Masonic Lodge, where he served as Past Master. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jean Blevins.

He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Juanita Horne Hooker of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, Sanford Sandy, Jr. and Susan Hooker, of Wellston, Okla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Anita and John Gaunt of Dansville, Mich.; one brother, Wilson Hooker of Pecos, Texas; one sister, Ima Kelly of Hope; one brother-in-law, Jerry and Pat Horne of Texarkana, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara and Jim Erskine of Bentonville and Judy McDowell of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2005, in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, with Rev. Joe Carlton officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
