BM-GW Attend Derby

Published Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Boys to Men and Girls to Women (BM-GW) Coalition of Prescott took to the road on February 27 to the Go-Cart Derby at Arkadelphia.

The kids and adults had a time of their life riding the mini cars, playing mini golf and other fun activities. At the same time they bonded and built character with each other.

Forty-four kids (grades 3-6) and 15 adults took part in this experience.

The mentors have a real dedication to the program; they feel responsible to the kids. Each mentor makes at least one contact with their mentee per week. During this contact they do real 'family stuff' together, such as shopping, fishing, going to church, sports events, etc. "This program is making a difference in the lives of our kids," Leavel Gibson, one of the backers of the coalition, said.

The BM-GW is a non-profit organization established to assist young men and women to avoid the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and gang violence; and help them to become productive citizen in our society.

"We would like to thank the parents/guardians, the Prescott School system, churches and the community for continuous support," Gibson said.
