Prescott played a good first quarter of football Friday night.

However, there was much left to be desired with the remaining three periods as the Wolves fell 49-0 to the Nashville Scrappers.

Prescotts defense was solid throughout the first quarter, giving up seven points in the final seconds of the frame.

The game began with Nashville winning the toss and starting at the Scrapper 40. There, the orange-clad visitors ran into a buzz saw as the Prescott defense stopped the drive with an interception by Micah McCoy, who returned the pick to the Prescott 35 with 10:35 showing.

It was three and out for Prescott as the offense was only able to gain eight yards. The punt rolled dead at the Scrapper 48 with 8:19 remaining.

De Shawn Scoggins gained 14, getting to Prescotts 48, only to see the drive stall. Nashville turned the ball over on downs at the Scrapper 49 with 7:01 left in the first.

However, Prescott was unable to generate a drive and turned the ball over on downs at the Scrapper 40 with 4:36 to go.

At this point Nashville began moving the ball. Scoggins carried three on of the next five plays, getting to the Prescott 31. He had a touchdown called back on a holding call, which only delayed the inaugural score A.J. Whitmore went to the air, finding Derrick Womack at the 22. This was followed by Steven Robins fighting to the nine. From there it took three more attempts before Whitmore scored from the three with 12 seconds left. The point after was good making it 7-0 Nashville.

Prescott began at its 31 after a 14-yard run back by Chris Carrigan. Tristan Stuart lost two as time expired.

The Wolves went to the air to get the second quarter started, only to have Ben Smith miss his target. However, he did find Deon Accor on third down for a 12-yard gain to the 41. Stuart fought for the first down on a fourth down blast up the gut to the 42.

However, blocking fell apart on the next play and James Threadgill was caught for an eight-yard loss. This was followed by a sideline warning against Prescott. Going to the air again, Smiths pass was picked off by Kyle Moore, who returned it to the Wolf 29.

Whitmore hit Scoggins with a scoring pass with 9:06 left in the half. The point after was no good, making it 13-0.

From there the floodgates opened as the Wolves found themselves in quicksand. In football quicksand is a term used when a team finds things going wrong no matter how hard it plays, and the more the players try, the deeper they sink.

Taking over at the Prescott 25, Threadgill gained five, before a delay call negated the effort. The next two plays were incomplete passes and Prescott lined up to punt.

Kadem Ray, listed at 303 pounds in the program, but likely closer to 350, got through and blocked the punt, falling on it in the end zone for a touchdown. The point after made it 20-0 with 7:33 remaining.

The Scrappers scored two more touchdown in the second quarter, going for two on one occasion to make it 35-0 at the half. This invoked the mercy rule at the start of the third quarter.

The Wolves fought as well as the players were able, but the end result was to sink deeper into the quicksand.

Nashville added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, with the extra points accounting for the final score.

Both sides got in as many players as possible to give the younger members of the teams game experience.
