Incumbents ousted from Board

There will be three new faces on the Prescott School Board at its October meeting.

This is because two incumbents were unseated in the annual school election, and the seat vacated by George Odoms illness was also filled.

Jo Beth Glass challenged and defeated incumbent Jeff Haynes, 80-57. Glass received 10 absentee ballots to 1 by Haynes, both got eight early votes. At the polling location, Prescott High Schools lobby, it was 62-48, Glass.

Three people contested the seat held by Kay Hendrix, with Shane Meador getting the majority of the votes. Meador got 45 votes, Bobby Pilgreen received 28, and Hendrix had 19.

Ordinarily there would be a runoff for the seat as no one received more than 50 percent of the votes. However, Pilgreen has attempted to withdraw and allow Meador to serve on the board. However, it has not been confirmed that Pilgreen will be allowed to withdraw, though he submitted a letter formally withdrawing as a school board candidate.

If there is a runoff, it will be held Oct. 11. The decision will be made by the states election lawyer.

Breaking the votes down, Meador received the only absentee vote. He received 12 early votes, to one for Pilgreen and six for Hendrix. At PHS, Meador garnered 32 votes, Pilgreen had 27 and Hendrix received 13.

Sandra Tatum ran unopposed for Odoms seat and will serve out the remainder of his term. She received 20 votes, 19 at PHS and one early vote.

The annual millage vote passed, though it was close, 128-118. This is not a new tax, but the millage that allows the district to collect funds to operate on. In absentee voting there were two votes for the tax and seven against. Early voting had 21 for and 10 against, while there were 105 for and 101 against at PHS.

As there were no contested races for the Nevada School District, the only issue on the ballot was the millage, which passed 2-0, both votes being cast early.
