Gurdon shuts out Foreman, 62-0BY JOHN NELSONPublished Wednesday, September 28, 2005 in the Gurdon Times Foremans Gators got whipped, 62-0, when they visited the Gurdon Go-Devils, who easily won their first conference game of the season. The win puts Gurdon 2-2 for the season overall and 1-0 for the conference. This Friday they are at home again against the Dierks Outlaws. Head Coach John Pace gave the word to the team post-game and said Dierks has a good ball club. Dierks is good and I want to beat them bad, Pace said. We have lost to them two years in a row. We played ball tonight and if we come back here next Friday to play and we win, we will have won a big ball game. Coach Pace said he realizes the weather could change for the worse this week, but he plans to have some good practices and come back here Friday night fully ready to play ball with Dierks. Of the Foreman game, Pace said, We played ball tonight. Everything looked good. But as I always say, be proud of what you do, but dont be satisfied. The game was won in the trenches. Gurdon controlled the line of scrimmage from the beginning, with Junior Go-Devil star OBryan Bell, a freshman, taking his place on the senior team and scoring the first touchdown against Foreman. The Go-Devils, as they like to do, ran up the middle of the field and this worked against Foreman. The second touchdown by Kentrell Green made it 13-0 Go-Devils, but when Green raised his arm in celebration he received a penalty for being happy. The actual penalty is unsportsmanlike conduct for celebrating. The penalty took the Go-Devils out of range for the extra point. Jesus Prado, OBryan Bell and Zack Duncan entered the game. OBryan Bell took off for a nice run. Daniel Francis got back in the game. It would seem that none of the players wanted to get beat again, like last week against Junction City. But alas, time would indicate the Go-Devils played all four quarters by controlling the line of scrimmage and ending the hopes of Foreman with a solid skunk of 62-0. In fact, nobody scored in the fourth. Bell made another long run and touchdown, making it 19-0, with 21.7 seconds in the first period. Robert Plyler kicked from his own 35 yard line and it was short to the 31, ran up and returned to Foremans 38. Going into the second quarter, Gurdon had 142 yards rushing in the first quarter, whereas Foreman had just eight. Camron Kennedy ran to the Foreman five-yard line, with Robert Plyler plowing the way. He continues to show his work ethic and his want to for success. But not this time. Deeper in the second quarter, Kennedy made it down to the two-yard line. Touchdown Kennedy. That was one to make it 27-0. Plyler kicked the extra point, 28-0. Bell had eight carries and 131 yards before the half. The Go-Devils continued to control the ball game, finishing the first half leading 56-0. A pass from Duncan to Green was good with 2:11 left in the first half, sealing the game at 55-0. The extra point was good, making Go-Devils 56, the Gators, 0. At halftime, the Gurdon High School Band played Funky Town and danced and pranced around the field. Carolanne Duke, a GHS senior, was recognized as being the Queen for the Clark County Fair. She will compete in district and then state. Other girls from Gurdon winning at the Clark County Fair beauty pageant were: Olivia Moore, Tiny Miss; and Meagan Trout, Junior Miss. The clock started ticking quickly in the third quarter. The Go-Devils boosted it to 62-0 with 1:51 to go in the third, sliding through the rest of the game with no scoring on either side. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
