The First State Bank, on Main Street in Gurdon, had a storage room broken into from the ceiling on Friday, Sept. 9, at around 2 a.m.

Gurdon City Marshal Don Childres said nothing was taken. The bank alarm did not go off because entry to the bank part of the building was not gained. The incident is still under investigation.

Steve Orsburn, bank president, said Thursday, "Security is always important to us and will continue to be. This incident confirms the need for what we have in place, but our security remains steady. Our bank continues to be a good safe place for our customers."

Childres said the incident was done very much like the US Bank burglary a few weeks ago. Coming in from the roof was the method used to enter.

"It is possible they are related," he said. "We will just have to continue investigating and find out."

The marshal said breaking into First State Bank is a felony, even though nothing was removed.

Childres said the Gurdon Police Department and the Clark County Sheriffs Department are the primary investigating agencies involved in the two break-ins.

"I dont really think you can even call them burglaries in the way most people think of a burglary," he said. "I mean nothing was taken either time."

Orsburn said, "There is not really much to tell about the incident at our bank. It did make us more aware of our surroundings.

"We are determined to stay up on our security, just as much as we can."

Orsburn said if the people or person doing the breaking in would have gotten into the bank itself, the alarm would have gone off.

In other police news, Childres said the 54-year-old, partly decomposed body of Curtis "Brodie" Henderson was found Friday, Sept. 9, at his home in Gurdon.

"Nobody had seen him since Tuesday. He was there on his couch, fully clothed, so it appears he died Tuesday of natural causes," Childres said. "Officers had to force entry, as Brodie had apparently locked his door from the inside."
